Video game, 16:9 55" flat OLED screen with sound, X-Box controller, gaming computer
״In the video game Token Eater we all become e-waste collectors. The video game functions like a claw machine with which, luck depending, you can capture cuddly animals or other toys. With a control stick, we guide the digital animation, trawl for junk, and are rewarded with symbolic money. As if by magic, the machine keeps being replenished with waste since nothing is so abundantly available as the leftovers from our consumption.״—Julia Höner
Team:
Programming, sound design: Eagle Wu
Environment: Rachid Moro
Rigging, additional programming: Federico Zurani
UI: Rachel Kinrot
The work was produced for Interzone, a solo show at Kunstmuseum Gelsenkirchen 2024, with the support of Stiftung Kunstfonds_SoloProjekt, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung, and Artis Contemporary.
