    Above and Beyond

Solo show at CCA Tel Aviv, curated by Chen Tamir
    02.05.2013—20.07.2013

"...For Above and Beyond, Rodeh has grafted onto a white cube one of the holiest sites of Judaism, the Wailing Wall – or, rather, an abstract recreation of the wall constructed of cardboard. The viewer walks into a dark, smoky room filled with music. The rhythmic melody, composed by Yoni Silver, is reminiscent of snake charming, made by the human body as an instrument: whistles, claps, and foot stomps that tantalize and draw to the light piercing through the cracks between the wall’s “stones." Alluding to rays of holy light, Rodeh’s beams punch through the wall like stained glass windows in a cathedral. The wall, where the Jewish people have come for generations to pray and wish and fling their faith against a stone fence, stands almost as if to entertain its new pilgrimage." —Chen Tamir

Cardboard, natural vegetation, OSB sheets, projections, and sound; Dimensions variable
Original soundtrack: 4:29 min looped, by Yoni Silver
    Documentation: Elad Sarig

The exhibition was made possible with the additional support of Ostrovsky family Fund and the Israeli Lottery Council for Culture and Arts.
